WOW - Standing Room Only for children & parents

We had Standing Room Only attendance at this wonderful event!

Elwood and Henley and their human companions Karen and Judith, who have both authored children books about their "best friends," met and greeted children and their parents to discuss their rescues when they were both homeless animals. Their happy endings are evident by their human/animal "Love Stories." A question and answer session with Judith and Karen followed, with everyone getting the chance to be up close and personal with both Henley and Elwood, who have both become well known media stars as well as the main characters of both children's books. The most asked question was: Why is Elwood's tongue the way it is?

Judith Kristen wrote "My Name is Henley” in Henley's voice which is the life story of Henley, a puppy mill rescue sheepdog. Henley has been named the mascot of Good Intent Elementary School in Deptford, New Jersey. Judith and Henley tour schools in the Delaware Valley educating students about puppy mills, rescue dogs and compassion for all living creatures.

Karen Quigley owns Elwood who was voted 2007's Ugliest Dog. Children see Elwood as not only beautiful on the inside but also beautiful on the outside. Elwood, who has public events almost every weekend, has become a national celebrity for his happy uplifting spirit.

Remy Reads

Remy, a terrier-cocker spaniel mix, was rescued by his owner Alexandra Buczek. Remy has an unusual talent of assisting children in their reading. Remy's presence creates a very relaxed atmosphere which is conducive to children quietly sitting and reading. The mere presence of pets in a classroom has been shown to lower blood pressure, lower anxiety and boost self-esteem. In a world of increasing technology, Remy Reads demonstrates a personal and warm approach to learning through the utilization of a companion animal.

Daddy's Spirit

Daddy's Spirit’s mission is to facilitate a positive experience for children who have lost their fathers. Ron Opher, the founder of Daddy’s Spirit, was in attendance with several children from Daddy's Spirit. Their goal is to instill a sense of self-worth and to encourage the child and their caregiver(s) to persevere and to recognize that it’s OK to have fun again and that the child’s dreams can survive after the passing of their father.

Buzzy's intends to repeat this Fabulous Event in Spring 2009.
