K-9 Dog Fundraising

Purpose: To bring children, parents and potential sponsors together to raise $7,500 to purchase and train the next K-9 dog for the Lower Merion Police Department.

Promotional Ideas For Fundraising:

1. Buzzy’s purchased several thousand large unique shopping bags which have been contributed by Buzzy’s to launch this fundraising effort. Bags are sold at Buzzy’s and outside of Buzzy’s by children, parents & friends of Buzzy’s for a contribution of $15, or more if the purchaser wishes to do so. Each bag contains a $10 coupon towards a purchase at Buzzy’s. One bag purchaser will also WIN a $250 shopping spree at Buzzy's. 100% of all proceeds from the sale of the bags will go to the Lower Merion Police Department’s K-9 Unit toward the acquisition of the K-9 dog.

2. Buzzy’s will promote K-9 fundraising activities by children and parents in the community by promoting activities such as a bake sale, car wash, etc.

Acquisition And Training: The dog acquired will be a German Shepard who will spend 14 weeks in training with its Lower Merion K-9 Unit handler at the Philadelphia Police Academy. K-9 dogs, throughout their working career, receive 2 additional days per month of continual training. Lower Merion has 4 dogs, 1 assigned to each patrol squad, trained in basic patrol, including tracking, article/evidence searches, building searches, criminal apprehension, agility and obedience. Two of the dogs are also trained in narcotics detection and two are trained in explosives detection.

Naming Of The K-9 Dog: Children and families will have the opportunity to participate in the naming of this newest addition to Lower Merion’s K-9 Unit.
