Sessions will take place in the backyard at Buzzy’s and will be supervised by professional dog trainer Larry Fine. For more information on Larry, please visit www.doggyality.com .

September 17 session will focus on socialization; and the September 24 session will be a combination of loose leash walking and basic commands. Class size is limited to 10 dogs, so please reserve your spot by calling Larry at 267-322-9574 or e-mail [email protected] .

Loose leash walking: Walking your dog is a necessary activity for both exercise and providing a leadership role. As pack animals, dogs are preprogrammed to migrate. The daily walk satisfies that primal need. It’s also a measure of the pack structure. When dogs are permitted to walk ahead of their owners and pull a tense leash, they are assuming the role of leader. This conditions them to elevate their pack status and potentially question your authority. It’s also unsafe and not much fun at all to walk a dog in that manner. Walking in front of your dog with a loose leash takes pressure off the dog and helps the dog focus on you as the leader. Mastering the walk will make it more productive, and strengthen the bond between you and your best friend. Enjoy the walk; it can turn out to be the best time of your day.

Basic Commands: During the session, you will get an introduction to basic commands. We will cover sit, stay, down, leave it, look, and come. Not only will there be demonstration and participation, but the philosophy behind commands will be discussed. Basic command training is the foundation of your leadership and a balanced dog. They will also enhance your bond and keep your dog safe.

Socialization: The socialization seminar will help your dog interact with other dogs and humans in a proper and safe manner. We will practice quick meet and greets to acclimate pairings or groups, and then work on longer interaction. Your dog will make some new friends and enjoy positive experience. Socialization is very important to your dog’s development. You will learn more about dog body language, which is the key to knowing your dog’s intentions with other dogs and humans. Properly socialized dogs will be more welcome at dog parks and other public places. You can be one of those people who eat lunch outside the restaurant with pooch by your side.

Agility: The agility course consists of weaving and jumping stations, a tunnel, and a pause box. These exercises provide physical challenge and mental stimulation, both of which are essential in achieving the balanced dog. Agility exercises can also build self-confidence for shy or timid dogs. Your dog will learn to follow your cues and have a lot of fun in the process.
