The Spayed ClubLocal Group Does Spay Neuter Rightby Diane WitiakEach year, approximately 3 to 4 million homeless pets are euthanized in the United States. Included in that number are the more than 35,000 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens that are put to death in the seven shelters in the Greater Philadelphia. These animals were euthanized simply because there are not enough homes for them. Visit The Spayded club online at http://www.thespayedclub.org/ |

K-9 FundraisingK-9 Dog Fundraising
Buzzy's has met with children, parents and members of the Lower Merion K-9 Unit to launch the fundraising to raise $7,500 to purchase and train the next K-9 dog for the Lower Merion Police Department. Buzzy’s has purchased several thousand large unique shopping bags which are being contributed by Buzzy’s to launch this fundraising effort. Bags will be sold at Buzzy’s for a contribution of $15, or more if the purchaser wishes to contribute more. Each bag will contain a $10 coupon to purchase goods at Buzzy’s. (One bag purchaser will also WIN a $250 shopping spree at Buzzy's.) 100% of all proceeds from the sale of the bags will be forwarded to the Lower Merion Police Department’s K-9 Unit as fundraising revenue toward the acquisition of the K-9 dog. Buzzy’s also has contribution jars in the store for donations directly toward this K-9 fundraising effort. The dog acquired will be a German Shepard who will spend 14 weeks in training with its Lower Merion K-9 Unit handler at the Philadelphia Police Academy. K-9 dogs, throughout their working career, receive 2 additional days per month of continual training. Lower Merion has 4 dogs, 1 assigned to each patrol squad, trained in basic patrol, including tracking, article/evidence searches, building searches, criminal apprehension, agility and obedience. Two of the dogs are also trained in narcotics detection and two are trained in explosives detection. Children and families will have the opportunity to participate in the naming of this newest addition to Lower Merion’s K-9 Unit. If you would like to make a contribution towards the purchase of the next K-9 Unit dog, please make your check payable to the “Lower Merion Police Department, K-9 Unit” and drop it off at Buzzy’s. Thank you! |
